When the Art Institute
closes Hopper’s characters
Finish their coffee and
pay the late-night counterman
Usually the woman in
the red dress goes straight home
But occasionally she stops
at the Marienkirche
Where her sister is the
servant girl sitting by the pillar.
Every year or two they
trade places for a few days
