MOURNERS

If not much too drunk to stand
Li Po's shadow would have been at the funeral
Perhaps this absence was just as well;
He surely would have distracted the mourners
And perhaps stumbled into the grave
When Li Po's ghost came by to talk,
Intending to discuss the funeral
He brought a clay jar of funeral wine;
The shadow was sitting quietly
Wearing a folded red-paper hat
Some god had made for him.
