PERVERSITY

Every now and then the cat
Looks up from my lap,
Mid-purr, to see if I
Have now become my wife
Who is off in the world.
The cat is sure it is cussedness
That makes me stay myself.
When my wife comes home the cat
Will humph at her, thinking
"Why were you so stubborn?"
