Someone wrote that I look down
When I look for truths. Lately a friend
Used a word -- descendental --
I didn't know. It turns out to mean,
The OED assures me, the opposite
Of transcendental. It’s just as well
I never visit Concord.
Emerson and Thoreau would be there
Making signs against my entrance.
