A shady, unreliable spirit
Half-seen near dawn
Offered me an old notion
He'd picked up in the street
Or stolen from its home.
Battered, it showed flecks
Of gaudy enameling
"A bit of repair -- you look
A handy sort -- some rewiring,
Dab of paint or two, and she'll
Be better than new."
I had no heart to refuse;
Now take your turn
Half-seen near dawn
Offered me an old notion
He'd picked up in the street
Or stolen from its home.
Battered, it showed flecks
Of gaudy enameling
"A bit of repair -- you look
A handy sort -- some rewiring,
Dab of paint or two, and she'll
Be better than new."
I had no heart to refuse;
Now take your turn
If the idea appeals to you.
